The new submission deadline is now October 24 at 11:59 PM ET. The extension was prompted by a major outage at Amazon Web Services that affected Epic Games, blocking progress for MegaJam participants using UEFN/Fortnite. This comes only a few days after itch.io was hit by a DDoS attack right as the MegaJam was getting started. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here.
