Yes, you read that right. Epic Games and Unity are working together, and the partnership will bear its first fruit in early 2026.
First: Unity's new cross-platform in-app purchase SDK will add support for Unreal Engine. This means Unreal developers will have the option to use Unity's new SDK to manage IAPs across all platforms.
Second, and perhaps more importantly: Unity developers will soon have the ability to publish their games in Fortnite. This immediately raises a lot of questions, and details are scarce right now, but Tim Sweeney had this to say when he made a surprise appearance at the Unite 2025 conference in Barcelona:
Now [Fortnite is] going to open up to all Unity games, thanks to some really amazing network technology Unity built that connects other engines into Unity through a networking protocol... Starting next year, Unity developers will be able to publish directly into Fortnite, to appear in Fortnite's discovery system alongside games built with Unreal Engine, and to participate in the Fortnite economy as it evolves towards an open metaverse economy connecting all users and all engines.
More details will be shared next year.
